Formal Reception
At the formal reception guests may be served at their designated tables.  This reception offers a feeling of organization, and generally assures that the guests’ attention is on the bride’s table for speeches and toasts.
 
Buffet Reception
The buffet reception is more popular today.  The number of serving tables and variety of food depends on the number of guests and the budget.  Guests serve themselves before sitting at the table of their choice or at designated sites.  Some guests appreciate the choice a buffet provides, both in menu and serving size.
 
Food Stations
A captivating variation of the standard buffet is the “food station” alternative.  A series of food tables are set up buffet style with each station presenting a different type of food amid appropriate decorations.  For instance, tables can contain separate courses, or offer guests delectable ethnic food at each “theme” site.
 
Luncheons and evening cocktail receptions can be casual buffets or formal sit-down affairs.  Menu choices include nearly every kind of hors d’oeuvres, salads, entrees and desserts.
